Markillie's Orchard

We started planting our small orchard in 1998. With no prior experience, we made our share of mistakes, but by asking plenty of questions and a great deal of help from the Michigan State Univesity agricultural program, we were soon on the right track. We started with 150 trees, and have added trees every year since and currently have 2,200 trees. We added irrigation to all our trees to give us a better chance to produce a good apple. We sold our apples at various farmers markets in the area. In the Fall of 2006 we began building a cider mill and we will have cider, donuts and already picked apples in Fall 2007.
